Tommy Fleetwood added another chapter to his fairy-tale year as he fought off a world-class field to win the 2025 DP World India Championship by two shots and celebrate victory on the green with his son Frankie for the first time.
Having ended his long wait for a first PGA TOUR title at the Tour Championship to capture the FedExCup in August, the Englishman then played a key role in Europe's historic away Ryder Cup victory at Bethpage Black in September. Fleetwood then moved into the top five on the Official World Golf Ranking for the first time in his career and is now an eight-time DP World Tour winner after producing a brilliant burst of scoring around the turn at Delhi Golf Club on his way to a closing 65. With third-round leader Keita Nakajima and a charging Daniel Hillier dominating the top of the leaderboard in the early stages, something special was required to catch them. And Fleetwood was up to the task, reeling off four birdies in a row from the seventh to grab a share of the lead on 20 under par. After producing a strong par save to remain up at the top, Fleetwood made further birdies from long range on the 14th and 17th to press home his advantage before a closing par saw him enter the winner's circle again. Fleetwood's playing partner Nakajima was alone in second on 20 under following his closing 69, two ahead of Shane Lowry, Alex Fitzpatrick and Thriston Lawrence in a tie for third. India has been a happy hunting ground for Japanese star Nakajima, who now has a victory and two runner-up finishes to his name in the country on the DP World Tour since 2024. Starting the day two shots behind Nakajima, Fleetwood closed the gap with an opening birdie but gave the shot straight back at the second. He returned to 16 under with a 14-foot birdie on the fourth hole before taking advantage of the par-three seventh to get within two shots of new leader Hillier. A tap-in birdie at the eighth and an eight-footer on the ninth saw Fleetwood sit one shot off the lead at the turn. And he made it four birdies in a row from range on the tenth to join Hillier at the summit. With Hillier slipping down the leaderboard after following up a double bogey on the 14th with a bogey at the next, Fleetwood opened up a two-shot lead thanks to a 12-foot birdie on the 14th before picking up another shot at the 17th to reach 22 under. Leading by two at the 18th tee, Fleetwood gave himself another birdie chance on the last but had to settle for a closing par. Fleetwood was joined on the green for the celebrations by his son Frankie, which was a goal the pair had set last week. He said: "We were at home last week and we were driving the buggy. I think we were playing golf together, and he just said randomly 'Do you know what you've never done?'. He said 'You've never won a tournament and I've been able to run on to the 18th green'. I was like, 'I'm writing that down'. "I had that written down all week. Like I say, it was just another opportunity really. "There's going to be many more times where I hopefully get the chance to do that. But all day today, I had in my mind could I put myself in a position where I can actually make that moment happen? "It's just one of those little things, it means a lot to me. It means so much to me. That was really cool. That's what I wanted to do all day." Speaking at his press conference, Fleetwood said: "These are the times that we're going to look back on. Whether it happened for me today or not, I knew that it was important for me to go out there and enjoy it, to look forward to it. "I just happened to play great. It was such an enjoyable round, and Keita, I have to give credit to him. I said to him afterwards that he played amazing. The par he made on the 16th, the putt he holed after me on the 17th, I think he did amazing, and he was a pleasure to play against today. "Overall it set up perfectly for me, but there's been so many amazing things no matter what this week."
